New shiney…

June 25, 2010 By: sdalek Category: Musings

I’ve succumbed and bought the latest gadget. As it stands, I really can’t understand what everyone’s complaints about its shortcomings are. My expectations are no more than this, a large form factor iPod, making it easier to see, easier to use, and more convenient overall. It currently meets my needs and expectations, keepings the news available so that I can read it offline. The big test will be when I finally get an appropriate case to carry it and use it out in the big world. The flash problem does not bother me much…yet. This ist a case of only time will tell. Perhaps Apple will address this with with an update or the market will migrate to new technology which will function with Apple’s IOSx. I’ll keep updating as I test and try. Right now my favorite game is Bombardier, a space based missile attack game where you adjust velocity and angle of attack to account for gravity wells produced by planetary bodies and try to destroy the enemy base.

Cheers…

Some ideas on creation (God’s relationship to the Stainless Steel Rat)

March 20, 2010 By: sdalek Category: Musings

Supposition 1: The universe was created by God’s will. All physical laws and rules exist because of him.
Supposition 2: Multiple universes exist in in the quantum foam that our universe exists in.
Supposition 3: When we die, our souls (spirits, what have you) have the opportunity to fall into or enter a quantum foam multiverse.
Proposition 1: When we die, our souls can pass into an alternative universe existing in the quantum foam that created our universe. Potentially the force of our will can force the primordial universe to take on properties that you, as your soul, want or imagine. In effect, when we pass away, we may experience the opportunity to enter a bubble in quantum foam, between universes, and create a new universe by imposing our will upon the blank template that exists. If our will is strong enough, we can create a universe that reflects our wants and desires, follows our rules, etc. The primary problems are 1) we are lucky enough to fall into or cross over the boundary of the universe into the quantum foam bubble, 2) we are cognizant enough to recognize that this has happened, 3) we are of strong enough personality to be able to force our will upon the bubble and create a new universe, and 4) we are strong enough to maintain the new universe for a long enough period of time for things to be created in our image and to follow our desired rules

Objects We Want Are Seen as Closer

“ScienceDaily (Jan. 16, 2010) — We assume that we see things as they really are. But according to a new report in Psychological Science, if we really want something, that desire may influence how we view our surroundings.

Psychological scientists Emily Balcetis from New York University and David Dunning from Cornell University conducted a set of studies to see how our desires affect perception. In the first experiment, participants had to estimate how far a water bottle was from where they were sitting. Half of the volunteers were allowed to drink water before the experiment, while the others ate salty pretzels, thus becoming very thirsty. The results showed that the thirsty volunteers estimated the water as being closer to them than volunteers who drank water earlier.

World’s smallest orchid found

December 02, 2009 By: sdalek Category: Musings, Observations

I’m amazed that this small plant was discovered and, also, I’m amazed at the botanist who’s discovered 60 new species in the past decade.

Here’s the article.
