New shiney…
I’ve succumbed and bought the latest gadget. As it stands, I really can’t understand what everyone’s complaints about its shortcomings are. My expectations are no more than this, a large form factor iPod, making it easier to see, easier to use, and more convenient overall. It currently meets my needs and expectations, keepings the news available so that I can read it offline. The big test will be when I finally get an appropriate case to carry it and use it out in the big world. The flash problem does not bother me much…yet. This ist a case of only time will tell. Perhaps Apple will address this with with an update or the market will migrate to new technology which will function with Apple’s IOSx. I’ll keep updating as I test and try. Right now my favorite game is Bombardier, a space based missile attack game where you adjust velocity and angle of attack to account for gravity wells produced by planetary bodies and try to destroy the enemy base.
Cheers…

Tempted to fill comments box with noooooooo… but I’ll restrain myself.
The flash problem won’t be sorted until Apple buck up. Basically Mr Jobby doesn’t want Flash on his devices and so has written it out. It’s not a bug in the system but a design choice… shocking no?
Roll on HTML5?
Anyhow, good luck. I did like the look of one but I just had success with a touch controlled fan controller… I don’t want to push my luck.
1I’m sure that the flash issue will be addressed at some point. While it is annoying not to have flash, it’s not a show stopper. While it does limit what you can view on the Internet, you can get around well enough on it’s own. So far I’m able to read mail and news, manage my Word Press site, and remote control my other PC.
2Ok, one observation. When the iPad goes into sleep mode and I turn it back on, it does not immediately re-establish it’s wireless connection. I find it more an annoyance than an inconvenience since I habitually turn off wireless on my iPod and iPad to save battery power when I don’t need it. Perhaps this will be fixed when the update is released this fall.
3One update. The latest OS update from Apple fixes that problem. And I’ve started using Dropbox to move documents to the iPad. It’s starting to gain functionality now. Things are shaping up.
4Regarding flash…YouTube is starting to test encoding some video in HTML5, which should obviate the need for flash. Also, there’s new software that will cache and convert flash into an iPad playable format which was reported on by MacWorld in the past couple of weeks.
5Does the browser support HTML5 then?
I thought that was next generation browsers?
I did have a play with a 64bit Firefox BETA which did HTML5 and YouTube is very nice using that.
Anyhow, the point was that despite the hype it really wasn’t a fully fledged internet tablet. It may grow into one but the hype grated on my nerves. How can something be “the full internet” when half the content is unviewable?
Think how many sites added flash to make things more interesting and then Mr Jobs just turns around and declares it all irrelevant cause he doesn’t want to have to pay Adobe (which is probably what it boils down to, cut off nose to stick tongue out at face).
Hopefully your tablet will gain features…
Personally I’m waiting for the all out tablet wars next year. I may get one eventually but I’m in no rush.
6There’s talk that HTML5 code is in Safari now but I’m not sure how deeply embedded it is.
